If you miss the advertiser verification deadline, Google pauses your Google Ads account and no ads run until you get verified. The deadline, a 30-day notice period under Google's policy, can't be extended. A pause is not a suspension: you keep access to the account and its reports, and Google unpauses it once verification is approved.
Advertiser verification is how Google confirms who is behind an account and who pays for its ads. When you're selected, Google tells you by an in-account notification and an email, together with your deadline.
Google can select an account because of its industry, advertising behavior it sees as suspicious, or use of features that are often misused. It also says all advertisers will eventually have to verify. Once the account is selected, some of your ads may be restricted even before the deadline.
What happens when the deadline passes?
- The account is paused. Google's pausing policy says the account is paused if you don't submit documentation within the 30-day notice period, or complete verification within 30 days. Paused accounts can't run any ads.
- There is no extension. Google says the deadline can't be extended.
- You keep access. You can still open a paused account and its reports.
- Related accounts can follow. Accounts related to the paused one, for example ones using the same payment method, may be paused too, and so may Merchant Center accounts linked to it.
How do you get the account running again?
Finish the verification. Restart it with the link in the email notification, or in Google Ads open Admin, expand Policy, select Account and click Start task (menu names as of November 2026). Google unpauses the account after it reviews your application and successfully verifies it.
The review is not instant. Google says each task can take up to 5 business days, and in rare cases up to 30 days. Here is what documents you need and how long it takes.
What I do: start the day the notice arrives. If a review can take a full week, waiting until the last days of the window leaves no room to resubmit a rejected document.
Is a paused account the same as a suspended one?
No. A missed deadline only pauses the account, but some verification problems are more serious:
| Situation | What Google does |
|---|---|
| Deadline missed | Account paused until you're verified |
| Too many failed attempts | Account paused; you can contact Google to appeal, and most appeals are reviewed within 5-7 business days |
| False or fraudulent information | Treated as a circumventing systems violation, and the account is suspended |
The last row is the one to avoid. A suspension for false information falls under circumventing systems, and Google reinstates those accounts only in compelling circumstances. Verification also comes up in suspension appeals: some advertisers must pass it to appeal, and after 3 failed attempts they can't appeal.
If your ads stopped and you aren't sure verification is the reason, go through why your Google Ads aren't showing.
