You fix it by making your store transparent and consistent: the same business name, address, phone and email on your website and in Merchant Center, clear prices, shipping and return policies, and nothing misleading. Then request a review in Merchant Center, but only once everything is fixed, because failed reviews trigger a cool-down period that can get longer.
Misrepresentation is a Merchant Center policy about trust in your business as a whole, not usually about one product. To decide whether a store misleads shoppers, Google may review your listings, website, accounts and third-party sources.
That is why changing a feed setting rarely fixes it. The fix happens on your website and in your business details.
How serious is a misrepresentation issue?
It depends on which part of the policy Google says you broke:
| Part of the policy | Examples from Google | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Unacceptable business practices, coordinated deceptive practices, dishonest pricing practices | Hiding or misrepresenting who you are, impersonating a brand, not disclosing the full cost, payment model or recurring fees | Suspension on detection, without prior warning |
| Unavailable offers, manipulated media, unreliable claims | Listing items you can't fulfill, hiding where products ship from, "miracle cure" claims | A warning at least 7 days before any suspension |
For the most serious violations, Google's policy says you will not be allowed to list content again. You can still appeal if you believe it is a mistake, but Google says accounts are only reinstated in compelling circumstances.
What should you fix on your store before asking for a review?
Google's policy and onboarding checklists point to the same things:
- Business identity. Your legal business name, physical address, phone number and email must match across your store and Merchant Center. Keep the phone active and use an email on your store's domain. EU businesses should show their VAT or company registration number in the footer.
- Policies. Clearly link your shipping, refund and privacy policies, and remove any template placeholder text from them.
- Prices and terms. Show the full price, including taxes, fees, shipping and any recurring charges, before checkout.
- Shipping. Say where products ship from, and show handling and transit times that match your Merchant Center shipping settings.
- Website quality. HTTPS on every page, a working checkout, no broken links, no "Lorem ipsum" or "Under construction" banners, no fake countdown timers or artificial stock warnings, and real product photos instead of stock images.
- Verification. Complete the identity and business verification Merchant Center asks for.
How do you request the review?
- Go to Products, open the Needs attention tab and select View setup and policy issues, or use the banner at the top of Merchant Center.
- Select I fixed the issue, then Request review. If you think Google got it wrong, select I disagree with the issue instead. Google says you may only get one chance to disagree.
- Wait. Account reviews typically take 7 business days and can take longer.
Reviews are limited. Google says that if the issue isn't resolved by the second review attempt, a one-week cool down period may begin, it may get longer with each unsuccessful review, and Google support can't shorten it.
In my experience, the stores that stay stuck are the ones that change one thing and request a review the same day. Work through the whole checklist first, then ask once.
If only individual products are affected, see why products get disapproved in Merchant Center instead.
